How’s your 2008 so far? Have you set your course for the year yet? If not, now’s definitely the time to do it. Don’t procrastinate for too long or the year will be half over before you know what hit you!
Since it is early in the year and many businesses are just starting the process of thinking about how to market their business this year, I wanted to share a few quick thoughts about where to start.
The very first thing ANY business should do, whether just starting out or looking to grow, is to clearly identify a target market. If you want to maximize your marketing efforts and investments, you can’t try to be all things to all people. So that means you need to identify in as much detail who your target customer is.
In other words, where do they live? How many kids do they have? What kind of car do they drive? How big is their house? What’s its value? What types of organizations and clubs do they belong to? How do they spend their time on the weekends?
Once you’ve identified these characteristics, you’ll be miles ahead of your competition because you’ll be better able to speak to their needs, wants, and concerns.
With your ideal prospect clearly defined, the next step is to pick a small but manageable group of these prospects and begin targeting your message at them. Don’t become a little fish in a big pond by blasting out your message to 5,000 possible prospects. Instead, start with a smaller group of 1,000-2,500 prospects depending on your budget.
By focusing your efforts on this smaller group, you’ll be able to focus your attention on developing some name recognition through continued contact. Don’t just send one postcard or flyer, send them 4 or 5 spread out over time. This way, you’ll be able to develop some name recognition with your target market and soon you’ll become the big fish in a little pond.
So, as you begin planning for the upcoming year, remember to focus your efforts and attention on a smaller, but tightly defined market and I guarantee you’ll see the results down the road!
One more thing before I go. After tonight, the monthly investment for the Lawn Care Champion’s Circle doubles from $29.95 to $59.95, so if you’ve been thinking about it, now is DEFINITELY the time to act.
In fact, I’ll be hosting the next Champion’s Circle tele-seminar tomorrow evening where I’ll be sharing some absolutely CRITICAL information if you want your business to not only survive, but really thrive in the relationship age.
