5 Actions That Can Dramatically Increase Your Income
Building a thriving, successful lawn care business requires a great deal of discipline, dedication, and determination. With all of the obstacles conspiring against you in today’s market (fuel prices, staffing problems, increasing competition, etc.), it’s even more important than ever to do the right things, in the right way, at the right time.
Here are 5 actions you can take that will help you overcome the many obstacles you’re facing:
- Continuously prospect for new customers. Marketing your business is NOT a twice a year job (Spring and Fall) like many would like to believe. If you want your business to grow you MUST be continously marketing your business so you can not only add new customers, but develop name recognition which results in new customers down the road.
- Stay in touch with your existing customers. Your past and present customers are your most valuable asset. Without them, you’re in danger of not having a business at all so it’s very important to stay in touch with them. In fact, for every month you DON’T communicate with your customers you lose 10% of the value of the relationship. That means that after just 10 months you don’t have a relationship and must start from scratch in order to rebuild trust and credibility.
- Have a magical marketing message that sets you apart. With so much competition in today’s marketplace, it’s very easy for your prospects and customers to get confused in terms of who’s who. Because everyone’s basically saying the same thing, they think everyone is essentially the same, which in turn means the only real difference is price. This is a dangerous place to compete. In order to win these customers over on something other than price, you MUST present a message that clearly explains why you’re different, why you’re better, and how it is you offer more value than the next guy.
- Become the ‘expert’. People want to work with experts. They like to know they’re working with ‘the best’ and an easy way to become this expert is to share your knowledge. An easy way to do this is to write articles, submit them to your local paper, and theb post them on your website. As you continually communicate with your market, share information with them that helps them become more knowledgeable about the services you offer. While many worry this will lead to customers leaving you to do it themselves, the effect is actually the opposite as they’ll respect and appreciate your services even more.
- Educate your customers on how to refer your business. Everybody knows that word-of-mouth marketing is the best form of marketing available. Unfortunately, it happens to infrequently to count on it consistently. Unless of course you create systems that encourage referrals. By creating referral systems that educate your existing customers on how to refer your business, you create a source of consistent, high quality prospects that come to you pre-sold about your business.
So, in these turbulent times in the green industry, keep these 5 steps in mind as you look for ways to overcome the many obstacles in your path to success.
