Lawn Care Business Marketing: 7 Profit Stimulating Ideas Part 1

Over the next few days I’d like to share with you part of a quick checklist of ideas for stimulating more business.  There are actually 7 different things you could do to generate new business and each day I’ll share a few of these powerful profit pulling ideas to help you stimulate additional business.  I could share them all at once, but I want you to have the opportunity to think about each idea and how you can implement it into your business before throwing another idea at you.

Now, these ideas work absolute magic when you need to stimulate new business, increase business from your existing customers and even build repeat business. Most of them are fairly low cost but highly effective.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re business is like so you may not be able to use all of them, but I’m certain you could use several of these to take your business to the next level.  In fact, just one or two of these suggestions could easily help take your business up a notch or two.

1.                  A Frequent Buyer Program

This idea is very similar to what you’ve probably seen in many movie rental stores, movie theatres, hair cutting salons, car washes, etc.  The idea is quite simple in that you issue a frequent buyer card to every customer that makes a purchase from you.  Then each time they purchase one of your services, you punch the card.  After so many purchases, they get something for free.

The idea with this is to encourage your customer to return for service again and again instead of spreading their business around.  Don’t just assume that because someone’s purchased your service once before that they’ll automatically pick up the phone and call you when they need service again.  Make it easy for them and reward them when they do.

One suggestion for increasing the effectiveness of this idea is to put a deadline on the ‘points’.  In other words, tell your customer they can only accumulate points throughout the year and the freebie must be used by the end of the year.  Or make it six months.  Or three months, depending on the type of service and the freebie you’re offering.

2.       Discounting

This is quite possibly the most commonly used tactic in all of business today.  Everywhere you look someone’s having a sale and offering a discount.  While this is probably my least favorite of all the business stimulating techniques, it does work.

To make it work however, there are several keys to success.  The first one is to come up with a reason for the discount.  If you just start offering a discount, people will begin to think you’ve artificially inflated prices and that the REAL cost is the discounted price.  So, you’ve got to have a reason for the discount and tell your customer the reason.

p class=”MsoNormal”>It could be because this is a slow time of year and you need to keep your employees busy, which means your customer saves. It could also be because you purchased some new equipment and you need to break it in.  Or because the weather’s unseasonably warm and you want to take advantage of it before it turns too cold.

No matter the reason you choose, make sure to state the reason in terms of how it benefits your customer.  They really don’t care about you or your business unless it means they’re the real winner.

Well, that’s all for today.  I’ll be back soon to share a few more of these powerful profit pulling ideas with you.
